First Hyatt Regency resort opens in Danang

Indochina Capital and Hyatt Hotels Corporation have announced the opening of Hyatt Regency Danang Resort and Spa in the central coast city of Danang as the first property in Vietnam bearing the luxury brand of the global hospitality company.

Peter Ryder, chief executive official of Indochina Capital Vietnam as the project owner, told reporters in Danang on Saturday that the 5-star seaside resort had been put into service after some three years of construction at an investment cost of more than US$130 million.

With contemporary design and Vietnamese-style architectural elements, the Hyatt Regency Danang boasts 200 guestrooms, 182 luxurious residences and 27 private ocean villas each with a private pool.

The resort features a Regency Ballroom able to accommodate up to 400 people for meetings and seven function rooms that cater to between 40 and 80 guests, all fitted with modern equipments and amenities.

Other resort facilities include dining and drinking venues, a fitness center, swimming pools, tennis and badminton courts, and a Camp Hyatt offering a wide range of activities for children and younger guests.

Ryder said families were one of the target groups of guests for the new resort, which is about 15 minutes by car from Danang International Airport.

Anthony Gain, general manager of Hyatt Regency Danang Resort and Spa, explained at the press conference that this is the second property with the Hyatt brand in Vietnam after the Park Hyatt Saigon, which was put into operations more than five years ago.

Willi Martin, area vice president of Hyatt Hotels & Resorts, said in a statement released last weekend that the company believed the Hyatt Regency Danang Resort and Spa would further strengthen its brand portfolio in South East Asia.

Time From the 4th to the 6th day of the first lunar month.
Place: Tien Phuong Commune, Chuong My District, Hanoi.
Objects of worship Buddha and god Nguyen Binh An.
Characteristics: Palanquin procession of the God, vegetarian meal contest and puppetry show.

Opening festival is the  palanquin procession, then altar procession, feast basket procession (include chung cake, giay cake made by the pagoda)… Then going down the mountain and worship in Quan Thanh place in the midst of the field, where according to the legend mark the foot of the god when he returned to his home village to ask for soybean jam and egg-plants. Puppets performance shows in the evening before the God Temple (puppets are symbol of a group Ming solders who stayed in Mai Linh for living, then at the festival they have to present to the God). Vegetarian meal contest is arranged on the 6th day. It involves folk games such as human chess, wrestling, and water puppetry show.

Time: From the 10th to the 12th day of first lunar month.
Place: Trieu Khuc Hamlet, Tan Trieu Commune, Thanh Tri District, Hanoi.
Objects of worship: Bo Cai Royal Highest Phung Hung – a founder of village, member of Vu family who taught the villagers how to make embroidery.
Characteristics: Dragon dance, flag dance.

The festival is organized at the Communal House. There are two communal houses in the village: Sac Communal House is the place keep the royal honour – conferring diploma; Lon (big) Communal House (main communal house), where worship to the village’s tutelary god: Phung Hung (in the 8th century). Trieu Khuc Village famous for making handicrafts such as: embroidering and sewing worshipping objects. Family name of Vu is the founder of  the embroidery. The festival involves the sacrifices – offering ceremony, a procession of  royal mantle of Phung Hung King from Sac Communal House return to Lon Communal House.

It also involves dragon dance, unicorn dance, bong dance, flag running review troops, popular opera performance to describe the tale of Phung Hung King chosen talent people to the army. Games: wrestling, swinging.

Place: Po Inu Nagar Temple, Po Klong Garai Tower, Po Rome Tower (Ninh Thuan Province)
Objects of worship: Goddess Po Inu Nagar, King Po Klong Garai and King Po Rome.
Characteristics: Ritual of the Cham people.

Kate Festival is the most unique festival of the Cham people. It associates with ancient towers where values of Cham culture are stored and other cultural aspects such as offerings, costumes, music instruments and hymns praising kings who made great service to the Champa Kingdom and Cham people.
