Being endowed with beautiful landscapes, Lam Dong Province has many cultural and historical sites. In addition, the province has a favorable geographical location with a number of important transport routes, including Highways 20, 27 and 28 and Lam Khuong Airport.
Lam Dong has effectively exploited its tourism potential, especially the city of Da Lat, making a large contribution to the country’s tourism revenue and building a strong brand name for Da Lat-Lam Dong.
Da Lat is Lam Dong’s most famous location. Located 1,500m above sea level, the city is surrounded with mountain ranges and abundant flora. Da Lat has cool temperate weather throughout the year. The city has a forest ecosystem, magnificent landscapes and diverse cultural values expressed through its European architectural style. With famous tourist sites of Tuyen Lam Lake, Suoi Vang – Dankia, Love Valley, Datanla, Prenn, Pongour and Dam B’ri waterfalls, and Lang Biang Mountain, Lam Dong Province has unique attractions for domestic and international tourists. By effectively exploiting those advantages, the province has offered a diversity of tourism products such as sightseeing tours, tours combined with entertainment and sport activities and ecotourism which have lured a large number of tourists annually.
In the recent years, the number of tourists to the province has continued increasing. In 2006-2010, this figure increased 11 percent on average per year. In 2010 alone, the province welcomed 3.15 million tourists, among which international tourists accounted for more than five percent, marking a doubling over 2005. Each tourist stays in the province for an average of 2.3-2.4 days. Apart from an increase in the number of tourists, tourist sites have also grown in both quality and quantity. A number of tourist sites have been improved and highly appreciated. At present, the province has hundreds of tourist sites. The number of high quality hotels has also increased. Up until now, there have been 720 facilities offering 12,000 rooms which can meet demand of 40,000 tourists. Among those, 18 hotels (including 1,400 rooms) meet 3-5 star standards.
Since 2003, the province has attracted 240 investment projects in the tourism sector with total investment capital of more than VND72.7 trillion. Eighty eight projects reported investment capital of more than 19.7 trillion with 152 projects completing investment agreements with investment capital of nearly VND53 trillion. In addition, many proposals to diversify tourism products have been made such as project on Yersin itinerary, a project on building a Da Lat history museum, a project on building a model of an old Da Lat street and a project on establishing a mock Vietnamese countryside. A number of tours exploring craft villages in Da Lat have been introduced, including tours to visit embroidery, jam making and artichoke tea making villages. Through those tours, tourism potential in the province has been effectively exploited, contributing to building a strong tourism brand name and attracting domestic and international tourists.
To continue enhance revenue from tourism, the province has worked with other provinces and cities within and outside the country, especially with Ho Chi Minh City to improve human resources for the tourism sector. Up until now, more than 55 percent of people working in the tourism sector have taken training courses. The province has cooperated with Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang, Khanh Hoa and Ninh Thuan to connect tourism products among those provinces, enhancing the quality of tourism products and promoting tourism development. In addition, Lam Dong in conjunction with those provinces has implemented tourism promotion programs to appeal for investors and tourists, creating equal and sustainable development among those provinces.
